# Pillars prayer times

Each city page is at `https://thepillarsapp.com/prayer-times/{country}/{city}/`, for example `/prayer-times/uk/london/`. `/prayer-times/` lists every country and city, `/prayer-times/{country}/` lists one country's cities, and `/prayer-times/sitemap.xml` lists every page.

## Where a page's times come from

Each city follows one standard, and the page names it:

- A timetable the city's mosques publish, such as the London Unified Prayer Timetable. The line under today's times reads "Updated {date} · Times follow the {timetable}". A day the timetable has not published yet is calculated and marked as an estimate.
- A calculation method, such as ISNA in Toronto. The line reads "Updated {date} · Times calculated with the {method}".

Times are start times, in the city's local time and its usual clock format (24-hour in the UK, 12-hour in North America). Each mosque sets its own jama'ah times.

## Reading a page

- The meta description and the first section give today's Fajr, Sunrise, Dhuhr (Zuhr), Asr, Maghrib and Isha. Asr has two times: the earlier (Shafi'i) and the later (Hanafi).
- The month's timetable is an HTML table with one row per day (`tr[data-date="YYYY-MM-DD"]`). Each row's date cell carries the Hijri (Umm al-Qura) date, and an estimated day's row has the class `estimate`.
- "Fajr Time In {city} Today", "Maghrib Time In {city} Today" (Maghrib is iftar time) and "Isha Time In {city} Today" each open with today's and tomorrow's time, then a 7-day table.
- "Where Do {city} Prayer Times Come From?" (a published timetable) or "How Are {city} Prayer Times Calculated?" (a method) explains the standard.
- "Mosques In {city} | Jama'ah Times" lists local mosques with their jama'ah (iqamah) and Jumu'ah times for the date shown, as each mosque publishes them.
- The FAQ is also in the page's `FAQPage` JSON-LD.

## In the browser (WebMCP)

Where WebMCP is available, each city page registers read-only tools. They return JSON, with times in the city's local time and clock format.

- `get_prayer_times({ date?: "YYYY-MM-DD" })`: `fajr`, `sunrise`, `dhuhr`, `asr`, `asr_hanafi`, `maghrib` and `isha`, with `timezone` and `standard`. `method` is set only for a calculated city. For a city with a published timetable, `origin` says whether the day is `published`, `last-year` (estimated from last year's timetable) or `calculated`.
- `get_next_prayer()`: the next prayer from now (`prayer`, `date`, `time`, `minutes_until`), using the Asr selected on the page (`asr`: `shafii` or `hanafi`).
- `get_monthly_timetable({ month?: "YYYY-MM" })`: one entry per day with every time, both Asr times and the Hijri date.
- `get_qibla_direction()`: `bearing_degrees` from true north and a `compass` word.
- `get_jumuah_and_mosques()`: the page's mosques with their `athan`, `iqamah` and `jummah` times, `mosque_times_date`, and the next Friday's Dhuhr start. Only on a page that lists mosques.

The declarative form tool `show_prayer_times_for_date` moves the page to a date and answers with that day's times.

## Ramadan and Eid

`/ramadan/` and `/eid-al-fitr/` link to the current year's pages. Each city page links to its Ramadan timetable, which has sehri (suhoor) end and iftar times for each day.

## Quoting times

Give the city and the date with any time you quote, and name the timetable or method. Link the city page as the source.
